About 500 submissions were received by the tenders board of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as bidding exercise for the production and supply of kits for 2014 Batch ‘A’ corps members kicked off yesterday in Abuja.

Speaking at the opening of bidding documents for production and supply of kits Tuesday, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier-General Nnamdi Okore-Affia Warned potential contractors against producing substandard kits and delay in delivery even as he commended the previous exercise which he said contractors delivered according to specifications.

The Director of Procurement, Mr Gabriel Alonge, who represented the DG at the bidding exercise, assured participating contractors that the process would be fair and transparent.

According to him, “The idea of lobbying to influence the exercise will not work. So, do the right thing and you will win the job.
“As stakeholders in NYSC business, you are not only contractors, but members of the NYSC family, whose first constituency and interest is the overall success of the larger family.

“It is our belief that you will earn our trust and improve in the area of procurement and supply of high quality capital items in the NYSC tradition of excellence and patriotism.
“Contractors are fully aware that the NYSC scheme does not compromise standards. Therefore, any contractor who fails to meet our set standards will have his or her contract with the NYSC terminated”.
