Emmanuel Okujo, the police officer who shot his girlfriend’s sister, was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court, on Tuesday, on a one count charge of attempted murder.
His charge sheet stated that the accused had, on February 10, 2012, attempted to murder one Blessing Isabor by shooting her with his “K2 police service gun with serial number ’64487′, which inflicted injury on her left cheek.”
The sheet further stated that the offence contravened section 228(1) and was punishable under section 288(2) of the criminal law of Lagos State Cap17 vol.44 laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2011.
Blessing was also in court, with a huge bandage on her left cheek.
Her family expressed sadness over the incident, saying she would need more than of N3.5 million to undergo a plastic surgery to regain her old look.
The magistrate, J. A. Anabor, however, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000.
The case was adjourned to October 19, 2012 for further hearing.
It will be recalled that Okujo was earlier accused of also kidnapping Blessing’s 18 year-old sister, Patience, who was said to be his girlfriend.
However, Patience later claimed that she had willingly eloped with Okujo after the shooting, because she was carrying his baby.
However, this did not quell the Isabor family’s desire for justice, as they vowed to see Okujo punished for shooting Blessing.
