Five Persons Feared Dead, 10 Others Injured In Kaduna Communal Clash

At least five persons were feared killed yesterday when violence broke out between the indigenous people of Marwa chiefdom and Fulani herdsmen in Kaura local government of Kaduna State.

Information Nigeria learnt that about 10 others sustained various degrees of injuries as a result of the clash, even as many houses were also set razed in the violence.

An eyewitness said that the attackers were earlier sighted close to a railway station in Sabon Gari, Marwa, holding meeting, but only started shooting sporadically when the residents were alerted of their nocturnal gathering; killing five persons instantly.

“Immediately, soldiers came and in the process, they ran towards Zankang, a village that serves as a border between Kaduna and Plateau states,” the source said.

Another eyewitness, Ahmad Mairiga Yandeh, secretary, Mobgal Fulbe Development Association in the state, who confirmed the death of a member, said people of the area stole their cows and set their houses ablaze, when the crisis started.

According to him, some of the injured have been taken to the Kafanchan General Hospital, where they were later referred to 44 Military Hospital, Kaduna.

Chairman of Kaura local government, Mr. Kumai Badu, who confirmed the incident, said the clash led to the killing of five persons.

“Yes, there was a clash between residents and Fulani herdsmen which led to the killing of five persons this morning. There was a quick intervention from the military strike force here and everywhere is calm”, Kumai said.

As at the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Police Command was yet to confirm the development as calls put through to the police commissioner, Olufemi Adenaike, were unsuccessful.
